Marcus T. Cathey a native of Jackson, Mississippi, is the pastor/founder of West Point Baptist Church in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. He was educated in the Jackson Public School System, graduating from Callaway High School in 1989. Upon graduation, he moved to Hattiesburg, Mississippi to attend the University of Southern Mississippi. He nurtured his passion for ministry by transferring to William Carey University and received his bachelor’s degree. He furthered his studies in the Master of Divinity Program at New Orleans Baptist Seminary.

Pastor Cathey began his work in ministry at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Hattiesburg. In 1999, he felt the call of God to start a church in west Hattiesburg. What began as a small group bible study of 12 quickly grew to an unprecedented journey of growth and faith in South Mississippi. Today, West Point Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Cathey, ministers to more than 2000 members.

Pastor Cathey feels strongly about promoting reconciliation, equipping servant leaders, and educating the next generation. His community involvement includes President of the Hattiesburg Public School District’s Board of Trustees and Second Vice President of the General Missionary Baptist State Convention of Mississippi. He has served as a board member of the United Way of Southeast Mississippi, the Hattiesburg American Editorial Board, the Salvation Army Advisory Board, and the Board of Trustees for the Mississippi Baptist Seminary and Bible College. He was a member of the Area Development Partnership’s Leaders for a New Century, now known as Leadership Pinebelt, Class of 2000.

He and his wife Marneshia are the proud parents of three children; Joshua, Madison, and Mason.
